Experienced Public Education Leader Dr. Greg Poole
Dr. Greg Poole is an experienced school district superintendent who has held a variety of leadership positions throughout his distinguished career in public education. He presently serves as superintendent of Barbers Hill Independent School District (ISD), one of the fastest-growing districts in the Houston area, and formerly worked as a principal, assistant principal, athletics director, coach, and math teacher at Conroe ISD schools. In addition, Dr. Greg Poole is a member of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Legislative Council and chair of its athletic committee.
Since becoming superintendent of Barbers Hill ISD in 2006, Dr. Greg Poole has overseen unprecedented growth, championed teacher salary increases, and launched a district-wide college initiative, all without raising tax rates. He has also created an education foundation that is now among the largest in the US. The school board nominated him for Superintendent of the Year in 2010. He is the second-longest serving administrator in Barbers Hill ISD history.
Before joining Barbers Hill ISD, Dr. Poole spent five years as principal at Caney Creek High School and helped it achieve a state recognized ranking in 2005. Previously, he was the athletics director at Caney Creek, and, as a coach, led the varsity football team to the District 18-4A championship in 1998.
In addition to his involvement with the UIL, Dr. Greg Poole serves on the boards of the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation and Texas High School Coaches Association Foundation. He has won county and district coaching awards and received the Article of the Year award from Texas Coach magazine.
Moreover, Dr. Poole is a former governor-appointed member of the Teacher Retirement System Board and taught classes as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned his doctorate in educational leadership. He earned his master's degree in education and bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Sam Houston State University.
